Day One: What a Great Send Off
Thank you to all the folks who showed up at A&S this morning to see Doug and me off. We had staff from the Sutter Roseville Hospital, we had a special group of folks; cancer patients and survivors, and we had friends and family.
Of course nothing goes perfectly. It turns out that the fancy-dancy shock absorbers I have on my bike raised it to a point where the side stand would not hold it. It was a little disconcerting this morning when I stopped to get gasoline, put the side stand down, prepared to dismount and watched both wheels come off the ground. Fortunately Joan pushed the bike up while I got off.
After an hour and a half at A&S it was determined there was nothing that could be done and still get us off today. So we fabricated a part to help me when I stop. We drew the BMW logo on it and off we went. Here is a picture of the part:
Bob Morrow snapped a picture of us leaving:
Doug and I stopped once for a sumptuous repast. Here is a picture of Doug delivering it:
For those of you who are reading this to understand what challenges I have encountered as a cancer patient let me just say a couple of things. It was amazing how I did not have much fatigue until late in the day. This is not normal and confirms my opinion that attitude can work wonders. I was too engaged in the ride the pre-ride party and the well wishes to worry about fatigue. Xoloda, the oral chemo I am taking does have side effects. So frequent bathroom stops were in order and I was successful in controlling that side effect. OK enough of that.
Today was a good day. I am so grateful to everyone for their support.
