2005 K1200S – A Solution That Just Obliterated the Problem
Looking down at the gauges I realize I’m hardly even moving the tach. The sci-fi whine that would not be out of place on the bridge of some of the galaxy’s better appointed battle cruisers accompanies my 5,000RPM amble. The twisties are fast approaching, and the devil takes me...
And then the K1200S takes the corners, like no other bike I’ve ridden. All accompanied to an engine note that has gone from sci-fi to something all together more bestial with an exciting twist of the throttle.
Actually I lied, it doesn’t take the corners “like no other bike I’ve ridden”… it takes the corners almost with the alacrity of a 600. All the while giving you the comfort of a proper sport-tourer, heck maybe even a big tourer like the ST1300. It’s a maddeningly contradictory mix to describe, but the K1200S may well be the answer.

BMW Unleashes The Beast: K1200R
Just when you thought the growing "naked bike" segment - sportbikes shorn of their plastic wrappers, unveiled for all to see - was all about showing off and nothing about substance and style, here comes the 2006 BMW K 1200 R. Unlike the weightlifter who can barely scratch his own back, the K 1200 R is powerfully built yet agile, massively quick yet perfectly docile for those times you want to take it easy. It's the ideal combination of menace and class.
BMW has taken advantage of the incredible technology housed in the new K 1200 S - a straight-line speed machine that also accelerates, turns and stops like a truly modern superbike - to create the K 1200 R. In fact, except for revised bodywork and ergonomics, the two bikes are very much alike.
And yet the two motorcycles couldn't be further in temperament. The K 1200 S is sophisticated, urbane, while the K 1200 R is built for the rider who lives for sport riding and uncompromised appearances. The K 1200 R eschews full bodywork for a tidy, aerodynamically designed instrument-panel fairing that incorporates powerful asymmetrical headlights and the engine oil cooler. This is a face that performance-oriented riders won't soon forget. Nor will race fans, as the K 1200 R will form the basis for the BMW Power Cup, with races to be held all over the world on special race-prepared machines. Taking up where the popular Boxer Cup left off, it's likely that the best, hardest-fought racing in 2005 will come from the ranks of the Power Cup.

Celebrate 25 years of GS
BMW is celebrating 25 years of its rugged GS range of bikes by taking over the Motorcycle World show at Beaulieu on 18-19 June.
The firm are planning a big presence at the show and are inviting GS riders to come and join them, with a special discount on entry and camping for anyone riding one of the big trailies.
The £9 ticket will also get you included in the massed ride around the Beaulieu arena, which is being lead by round-the-world star Charley Boorman accompanied by five-times Dakar competitor Simon Pavey and Guinness World Record holders, Kevin and Julia Sanders.
Apart from all the usual attractions at the event BMW are also putting on a stunt show with Jean-Pierre Goy (James Bond’s stunt double in Tomorrow Never Dies) and Charlie Boorman will be holding a special evening presentation about his trip.

BMW bikes to come out in Iran
TEHRAN – BMW Group has issued a license to make two of its motorcycle brands in Iran.

This is the first time production of BMW motorbikes is permitted in another country, said Ali Nuriani, whose company is the German group’s sole representative here. “We’ve been granted the license to manufacture F650 GS and Dakar bikes,” he implied. However, Nuriani pointed out that the Iranian Ministry of Industries and Mines should approve the license. “Then, we will start with importation of completely knocked down (CKD) parts.”

Rare 1942 motorcycle rebuilt by father and son team heads to museum
For most, history is something found in the pages of a book, at a museum or up on the big screen in some epic, multi-million-dollar film.
Occasionally, people may even come face-to-face with history while traveling to a foreign land and encountering ruins or artifacts from ages long past.
But for Paradise Valley residents Peter and Manuel Spitzer, history is something they bring back to life, right in their own backyard.
The father and son team recently completed a year-long labour of love – restoring a 1942 R75 BMW motorcycle to pristine condition – and on Monday (May 2) the World War II-era chopper was sent off to hold a special place in a motorcycle museum.
