ROWDY GIRL SAYS...
Making the Most of Our Lives
As motorcyclists, I believe that inherently we live a fuller life than our non-motorcycling companions. We go places, we make our adrenaline flow, but most importantly, we make time in our lives for something we really enjoy.
This month's Beemer File will focus on making the most of our lives. Our Rider's Spotlight is about some very cool friends of mine who are about to embark on an adventure many of us dream of! Our featured bike will be the K1200LT, arguably the most comfortable bike on which to share our passion with our significant others. The parts and accessories are geared toward the ease and enjoyment of the ride.
We never know what's around the next bend in the road - let's make the most of this ride, shall we?

GEAR REVIEWBMW Motorrad AirFlow 3 Jacket and Pant: Summer Riding? No Sweat!
Ahhh, the great weather is finally here! You happily suit up at 9 a.m., clean from your shower, looking good. However, by 11 a.m. the picture isn’t so pretty. Sweat pours off of you, your face resembles a beet and you’ve lost so much weight you swear you could fit into that old tux/dress you wore to the prom. Let me introduce you to the BMW AirFlow 3 Jacket and Pant. First of all, I was shocked at the substantial feeling of the mesh – it feels more like a chainmail than a fabric. I instantly have the utmost confidence in the mesh withstanding a get-off, unlike other mesh I’ve seen. It also touts very large panels of reflective fabric along the chest and back, allowing you to be very visible at night, and of course full CE body armor in the elbows, shoulder and back. “How’s it perform?” you may ask. Amazingly! Though the jacket is comprised of both mesh and textile, the airflow felt the same as that of my full mesh jacket – I know, I know, but it did. I am so impressed with the BMW AirFlow 3 gear that I’ll personally recommend it to you! Wanna see it yourself? Watch the ASTV video: BMW Motorrad AirFlow 3. www.ascycles.com/airflow3
BMW MOTORCYCLE MUST HAVES: BMW K 1200 LT
Whether you chose the LT to ride alone or as the ultimate in comfort for your passenger, there’s no doubt this is one nice bike. With the flick of a switch your K1200LT is on the center stand. Those twisties were even better set to the sounds emanating from your amazing sound system. And, as you walk away from this fine machine, you don’t even need to fear with the standard anti-theft alarm. But, believe it or not, there are a few things that can make this bike even better! What are other LT riders saying they can't live without?
AirHawk Seat PadEven with the most comfortable seat, after an all day ride your backside just plain hurts. You’d swear you have bedsores, and your back is refusing to return to its full upright position! Fortunately, with the AirHawk Seat Pad’s dry flotation technology, these days are gone. Originally designed for the prevention of pressure sores in wheelchair occupants, the interconnected air cells ensure that blood flow is maintained. And since this pad inflates, it absorbs shocks and vibrations usually sent up your backside. Trust me, your bootie and back will thank you! www.ascycles.com/Airhawk
Turn Signal MirrorsSafety is always a concern when riding your bike. As big as the K1200LT is, it’s amazing how many cagers still don’t see you. They claim they didn’t see you signal. Well, not any more. These mirrors use high intensity lights to change ordinary exterior rearview mirrors into safety features that command attention. When a turn signal is activated, a flashing chevron appears in the corresponding side mirror to alert drivers in the "blind spots" around and behind your bike. The mirrors operate as regular rearview mirrors whether the turn signals are activated or not. How cool is that?! www.ascycles.com/LTMirror
PacSafe ExoMesh Bag ProtectorsYou’re on a weekend trip with your wonderful significant other, and you’ve just found the perfect restaurant overlooking the most amazing vista! You attempt to stow your jacket and helmets in the bikes bags only to discover they’re stuffed to the gills. In fact, is that the clothes iron down there? PacSafe is an adjustable stainless steel mesh locking device, designed to cover and protect a variety of bags and packs from tampering, pilfering and theft. Throw it around your jackets and helmets, secure it to the bike and go enjoy your meal. www.ascycles.com/pacsafe
BMW MOTORCYCLE RIDER SPOTLIGHT
Dell and Doug's Excellent Adventure - Arctic Circle Ride for Cancer Patient Awareness
June 16th 2007 at 10 a.m., from the parking lot of A&S BMW Motorcycles, Dell Fields and Doug Holck will begin an adventure of a lifetime on their BMW R1150GS Adventures! Fortunately for you, A&S BMW Motorcycles is going to keep track of them every step of the way thru daily posts to their blog: www.ascycles.com/arctic_circle. We’ll have their GPS coordinates for you, a cool Google Earth map to track their progress and photos along the way!“People do this everyday? What’s all the hype?”
Dell Fields is an active cancer patient, currently undergoing treatment. He was first diagnosed with colon cancer in February 2002. Although it had spread to his lymph nodes, He beat it. Unfortunately, it came back and this time spread to his liver as well. He beats it again only to have it reappear in his lungs, and on and on this goes. If you take a moment to read about Dell’s fight with Cancer, it will shock you to see what he’s been through. It may shock you even more to learn that I’ve never seen Dell without a smile on his face. And, unlike many
people faced with these misfortunes, Dell has chosen to continue his life the way he wants and refuses to succumb to the horrid side effects the fight against the cancer causes – Dell’s going to ride to the Arctic Circle as an active cancer patient.Doug Holck’s been planning to ride to the Arctic Circle for years and years. But, like so many of us, other things always seemed to take priority. Finally, he decided the time was right and began preparing. When Dell showed a glimmer of interest, Doug didn’t take a seconds thought before convincing Dell he could and should go too.
With less that 10 hours riding time together, these two are about to embark on a ride most of us long to do. They plan to take roughly 38 days to complete the trip. The route chosen accommodates Dell’s needs, and they plan to stop every hour or so for a rest. They’ll mix hotel stays with camping, and if something seems worth checking out, they will. The dirt portion of the trip will begin in Whitehorse, Yukon where their knobbys are already waiting for them. Once they swap rubber they’ll head for the Dempster Highway, where they’ll first hit the Arctic Circle. The plan is then to head toward the Dawson Highway in Alaska, hitting the Arctic Circle for a second time.
Doug and Dell have not accepted any assistance for this trip – parts, monies or otherwise. Their main goal (besides having a darn good time) is to build awareness that it is possible to live a full life even with cancer. Show your support by donating to the Sutter Cancer Center: www.dellfields.com/Donation.html. Your monies will fund support groups for patients and their families helping them understand and cope with cancer.
Be sure to keep up with their trip to the Arctic Circle at
www.ascycles.com/arctic_circle.
